Student Immersion Tour - Cambodia

Back to Signature Tours

We have been asked to put together tours for family and student groups and have come up with a great sample itinerary for school groups looking for a true immersion experience.

Ideal for ages 12 and up, this tour offers a look at Cambodia past and present and allows students to interact with Cambodians in a safe and supportive environment. We ask all groups to fundraise before arriving in Cambodia so they can see their money being put to use in our Journeys Within Our Community Projects and meet the people benefitting from their hard work.

If interested, please email and let us set up a student trip that will change lives on both sides of the world!

Day 1  Siem Reap - Arrival

Catch your flight to Siem Reap - .

You will be met at Siem Reap Airport by a Journeys Within representative and taken to your hotel.

Head into town to enjoy a traditional buffet dinner and dance show in the evening.

Meals included: Dinner

Overnight at Tara Angkor Hotel - Superior Room

Day 2  Siem Reap - JWOC Orientation Tour

In the morning accompany Brandon Ross, JWOC Founder, on a visit to the village of Taksen Tboung at the back of the Journeys Within B&B property, where JWOC first started its projects. Here you will have a chance to see some projects in action; our Clean Water Project (wells and well maintenance), small businesses supported by our micro-finance program and the homes of many of the families who benefit from our free schools program. On your return from the village meet the JWOC Managing Directors, Andrew and Camilla, who will further introduce you to the work of JWOC and the busy Community Centre.

Have lunch at Journeys Within and the afternoon meet some of the JWOC scholarship students and have a lesson in the Khmer language... learning to say hello, goodbye, thank you and other handy sayings.

In the evening, dine at Madame Butterfly, a French/Khmer restaurant with excellent food and a lovely atmosphere.

Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch

Overnight at Tara Angkor Hotel - Superior Room

Day 3  Siem Reap - Angkor Wat

After breakfast head to Angkor Wat in an air conditioned car with your guide. Explore this majestic temple throughout the morning while it is still cool and has fewer tourists. You will be accompanied by 10 JWOC language school students who may or may not have ever had the opportunity to visit Angkor Wat. Your guide will take you through the temple and we will have activities like scavenger hunts to help the children work together. Return to Journeys Within for lunch and relax with a nap or refresh with a swim.

In the late afternoon visit the new JWOC Community Center Language School. Meet the students and help them practice their English. This flagship location represents and brings together all of JWOC'S projects in a central location where educational and economic opportunities are offered free to local communities and meaningful interaction between Cambodians, tourists, donors, expats, scholarship students and others is facilitated.

Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch

Overnight at Tara Angkor Hotel - Superior Room

Day 4  Siem Reap - Angkor Thom

In the morning have some time to reflect on what you have seen and done so far and have some time to enjoy the pool.

In the afternoon head to Angkor Thom, the famous walled city and see the many temples within its borders, including the fascinating Bayon temple with its many magnificent faces smiling out. There are several beautiful spots from which to watch the sunset. Discuss with your guide where you would like to be and then relax and enjoy a memorable end to your day at the temples.

Meals included: Breakfast

Overnight at Tara Angkor Hotel - Superior Room

Day 5  Siem Reap - Kulen Mountain National Park

Join a Journeys Within group out to Kulen Mountain National Park, about a two hour drive from Siem Reap. There you can swim in the water falls and enjoy a picnic lunch in your own gazebo. Take an afternoon nap in a hammock before returning to your hotel.

Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch

Overnight at Tara Angkor Hotel - Superior Room

Day 6  Siem Reap - Visit Well

Today you will visit your donated wells. About an hour outside of Siem Reap we will take the van as far as possible and then walk the rest of the way if necessary. We will meet the recipients of the wells and talk about what clean water means to their life. If it works into our Clean Water Project schedule we may be able to hand out hygiene kits and talk to the villagers about teeth brushing and hand washing to help them better use the clean water they now have.

Have a picnic lunch in the village and return to Siem Reap in the late afternoon.

Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch

Overnight at Tara Angkor Hotel - Superior Room

Day 7  Siem Reap - Banteay Srei & Other Temples

This morning set off with your guide to Banteay Srei, the intricately carved temple just 30 km beyond Angkor Wat. Then head back to the local temples where you will visit Banteay Kdei and Ta Prohm, two of the prettiest temples in the complex. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant.

In the late afternoon visit the JWOC Community Center Language School. Have a final afternoon class with the students practicing their English and your Khmer!

Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch

Overnight at Tara Angkor Hotel - Superior Room

Day 8  Siem Reap - Kayaking

Experience a unique Journeys Within day kayaking on the Tonle Sap. You will set out with the rest of the group around 8am and drive for about an hour before boarding a boat for a 40 minute ride to one of the lake villages. Here the homes are built on stilts because, while in the dry season the surrounding area is dry, in the rainy season it is flooded and so they rise above the water level. You will arrive at the local home that stores our canoes and after a short safety briefing head off with your guide who will lead you thru waterways, flooded forests and out into the Tonle Sap lake where you can take a dip if you wish. Then back to wind thru the village experiencing how the locals live in this watery environment before returning to the home for lunch and a leisurely boat and car ride back to town.
